Welcome to the Natural Dyes project!
Most of you will find difficulties in the first steps of using this platform (as I did). Don't be ashamed, and remember the first time you had to drive a car!
First of all, there are two steps for participating:
- The first one is registering. Have a photograph ready, and please write a couple of sentences to explain us who you are (or better what you do!). Once registered (it is free), you will simply have to check whether you are logged in when you come back to the site.
-The second step is joining a group. You and only you can do this, as it is a personal decision. In the list of projects, click on the icon of Natural Dyes. You are then on the principal page of the project. Simply click on Join the group, and that's done.
You can join other groups as well. Some of them are closed, and you will have to wait for approval. You can also create any group you wish. In the field of natural dyes, I think that the opportunity to open special groups should first be discussed within the main group.
As a member of the Natural Dyes project, you will be notified every time something new is posted (check if you have chosen this procedure in your parameters).
This project is not centralized, and don't expect to receive top-down information. We are in the field of the so-called citizen science! It will work bottom-up, and you have to be proactive. Ask questions, send data or images, inform about events, In brief tell us of anything that might be interesting for the community.
Notify me any technical problem you will find. I will do my best to solve it, with the help of my colleagues specialized in computer science here in Montpellier. It will help me improve the glossary (or glossaire in French) that I advise you to read before asking a question. But remember I am encharged of all useful plants aspects, not only dyes.
By the way, we can also create a distinct group about fiber plants (textiles...), as other kinds of people will look at this specific keyword. If you are interested in other kinds of uses (vegetables, fruits, medicinals...), join us at the Pl@ntUse project.
Let me hope you will soon command all the tools and enjoy exchanging with other passionate people.
PS. Of course all of us are supposed to follow netiquette. We will be very careful in avoiding spams, trolls, flames...
